Rochester Central Library Grand Opening: Teen Center and Arts Division

Libraries are more than the place we find books in our community, they are also a place we meet and socialize. Keeping in pace with our community's every-changing requirements meant a necessary remodel for the Rochester Central Library. As the architect for the project, we addressed 3 key areas:

  1. Creating Teen Central. To bring more teens to the library we needed to address their 21st century needs. In addition to supporting their literature needs, Teens now also have space for video; whether it be playing a game, shooting a video, or editing their creations. Throughout the entire area we incorporated fun and innovative lighting.

  2. Renovating the Arts Division. A new makerspace was added to allow artists to gather, create, and perform.

  3. Making historical spaces more modern. The Rundell entry foyer was updated for security and a reproduction chandelier replaced an outdated fixture. Technology was integrated throughout Hacker Hall.

The grand opening ceremony on May 24th included Mayor Lovely Warren and Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo. For more information on the opening, click here

We can't wait to see what our teen's create, can you?
