FINGERLAKES COMMUNITY COLLEGE (VITICULTURE AND WINE CENTER)
Based in the Cornell Agriculture and Food Technology Park in Geneva, N.Y., the FLCC Viticulture and Wine Center is home to a two-year associate in applied science degree program in viticulture and wine technology. It enables future wine industry professionals to study at a location where some of the most advanced agricultural research is taking place. The project was a completely new construction comprised of a winery, lecture hall, laboratory, student lounge and faculty offices. Orientation and strategic roof overhangs optimize energy efficiency. Eventually, on-site grapevines will surround the building and be used to make the wines.
FLCC VITICULTURE AND WINE CENTER | TASTING & ENTRANCE
Serving as the main entrance and a tasting area, this design was inspired by the winemaking process, using stone and wood. A wine-colored accent wall adds to the effect and also introduces a pop of color for visual interest.
FLCC VITICULTURE AND WINE CENTER CENTER | CLASSROOM
The Viticulture & Wine Center was designed to educate students about wine making in both a classroom and hands-on manner.
FLCC VITICULTURE AND WINE CENTER | PRODUCTION FACILITY
Designed as a fully operational winery, the production facility includes fermentation tanks, aging rooms, a chilling system and exterior crush pad. Other features include, LED fixtures, operable windows, metal building components, concrete floor and exterior shading systems.
FLCC VITICULTURE AND WINE CENTER | LABRATORY
Students can learn the chemistry behind the process in the science lab, and then head to the production facility to start making wine.
