Project Spotlights

Lincoln Branch | Rochester Public Library

The Lincoln Branch is the largest branch and one of the most beloved libraries in the City of Rochester. It is located in a high-need residential neighborhood with large youth and transient populations. However, the building was in need of repairs and the interior layout made it difficult to meet the community’s needs.

Construction is currently underway to make the library function better for the community it serves.

250 Alexander Street | Mindex Technologies

Since 1994, Mindex Technologies, Inc. has provided software programming, IT support services and full life-cycle application development, to clients ranging from small local businesses to Fortune 100 companies. Having grown to more than 200 employees, they outgrew their old space. Edge Architecture was chosen to create a new office in downtown Rochester, to both reflect the company’s technology-based work culture, and accommodate their functional space needs.

Edge provided architectural design for the building as a whole, as well as the interior space for Mindex. Edge Building and Construction was the general contractor for Mindex’s office fit out.

Rochester Prep High School

Edge Architecture helped Rochester Prep convert a former church school into a state-of-the-art high school building to meet the needs of its scholars. Located in the heart of a run-down neighborhood, this revitalized structure injects new life into an otherwise declining block. With a 35,000 SF building addition (90,000 SF total), the upgraded school includes a new secure entryway, a modern cafeteria, a gymnasium, and technology-enabled classrooms.

SUNY Geneseo Red Jacket Dining Hall

SUNY Geneseo came to us with a challenge: renovate the existing Freshman dining hall to better utilize the second floor and create a student union atmosphere. At the onset of each academic year, Red Jacket is a warm, inviting and familiar environment for freshman while introducing them to collegiate life. In the summers, it’s a tried & true recruitment tool for both young potential students and their pragmatic parents. The fact is, that Red Jacket is one of the first introductions to freshman life that students will have on campus and to the college community and feeling comfortable is a key component.

Rochester Public Library

Renovation work in Bausch & Lomb and Rundel Memorial buildings. Scope included the design and relocation of Art, Music & Recreation, Teen Central, special collections, and Technology Center spaces. Lighting, signage, furnishings and finishes were replaced throughout. Edge was selected by the City of Rochester based on our strong working relationship with the City, expertise in working with libraries, understanding of specialized needs of social spaces, and historically sensitive renovations.

SUNY Plattsburgh Clinton Dining Hall

Student engagement is the essence of what a dining hall is all about. As one of the main dining halls that serves the campus and is the core freshman dining experience, SUNY Plattsburgh’s Clinton Dining Hall was in need of a renovation as it had not seen a major upgrade to its aging building systems or dated interior spaces in over 20 years. As a critical tool to help recruit new students to the campus, the overall goal of the project was an overall space modernization and to transition from a single serving line to fresh food stations, catering to student requests for personalized meals.

Gorbel, Inc.

Gorbel’s tagline “A Class Above” and their crane manufacturing nature influenced the industrial design aesthetic and drove inspirational details. The design team was responsible for creating corporate brand standards that included a palette of color, detailed expression of material selections and integration of corporate messaging. This created branded design standards that were implemented campus-wide. The Edge team has completed renovations on three of their buildings.

Campbell Street R-Center

Rochester’s R-centers offer an abundance of year-round social, cultural and athletic programs such as free summer breakfast and lunch, school-year dinners, a Youth Council, homework help and hundreds of seasonal events. For this project, it was important to not only understand the issues around maintenance of the aging facility, but it was important to understand the needs of the neighborhood, DRYS and the operating staff. Edge attended neighborhood open houses to present ideas and receive feedback and facilitated multiple user meetings that included staff, youth, and City leadership.
